Greetings Demonic Ones! You know I’ve been in a biomechanics rabbit hole lately. Have been studying gait mechanics, hamstrings, and other great topics. The last two weeks we took a look at special workouts. This week I want to swing back around to technique. As you are out on your runs, I’d like you to think about a few things.
When your foot swings out in front of your body, the leg cocks like a hammer and prepares to STRIKE the ground. This is very subtle or gentle when jogging and quite aggressive when sprinting. Either way, you want to drive that foot down and back so that it strikes the ground in a “pawback” motion on your midfoot, under (or close to this alignment) your hip. Getting this right is crazy good and quite possibly the single most important key in the gait cycle. Work on your STRIKE!
