This edition in the AnimalFIT series is Understanding Human Muscles. It’s Part 1 of at least 2 and maybe 3 short episodes on muscle fiber physiology, performance, and self-assessment. I’m breaking this topic into several sections to make it easy to understand, as the title suggests. Today I discuss some of the defining characteristics of muscle, particularly with regard to Slow-twitch (Type 1) and Fast-twitch (Type 2) fibers.
