Howdy you outstanding, brilliant, and sexy Tribe member! I hope you had a fantastic July and I know we are all going to have an amazing August. One reason is because we jump into the second month of our two-month speed-focused training block. Before we get to the programming, I’ve got just a few updates for you.
- I’ll be out of town (death in the family) this week.
- No Daddy for the Monday and Wednesday team sessions.
- I’m back at the track in Belgrade at 10 am on Saturday the 6th.
- Make sure you hit at least some (why not all?) of your training.
Week of 2022-08-1 (week 1 of month 2: Speed Block)
| WOW | PREP | PRIMARY | ACCESSORY | TIPS |
| Field X 1 | Sandbag Walk Barefoot 20’ | Throw and Go 30 reps of med ball throw (free choice) and 40 yard dash Barefoot Unlimited rests First few easy then go like hell | Walk, stretch, and hydrate. | Looks simple but it is an ass kicker. |
| Trail X 1 | Load your pack light | The Overlander Go farther than you’ve gone all year! | Cold plunge or shower is mandatory! | The possibilities are endless! |
| Track X 1 | Walk 1 lap Jog 1 lap Free choice drills Stride 4 x 60m | Squatty Running 20 x 60m 75% speed Flex legs 1 inch | Free Choice FK Tubing Sandbag Med Ball Pick one favorite move for each and take it to a light burn | It will take a few reps to get the feel of squatty running! |
| Recover X 2-3 | Pump tires and lube chain | Bike 1 hour | Swim if available | Gentle movement. |
Fieldsesh Breakdown: Barefoot time. Carry that sandbag around for a while and notice how it gradually loosens you up. Then hit those MB throws plus dashes, mixing your throws as you like. One throw, one sprint, walk back slowly. Times 30! Cooldown is open-ended but not to be skipped.
Trailsesh Breakdown: Instead of going heavy and hard, go long and lighter. This is the art of dynamic training, mixing in different variables. It’s why you are a Tribe member.
Tracksesh Breakdown: This is rhythm running again, but it’s squatty. This means you flex your legs a tiny bit more but don’t bend your back. It helps with compact cycling and frontside mechanics. These are key to not overstriding, casting, or staying backside for too long. You will have questions about this and I’ll help you when I get back. Keep the FittKitt stuff at the end fairly casual. Just pick some moves and work on them without a lot of thought.
Recoversesh Breakdown: Same as last week. No impact easy cardio with a cool-off at the end. Treat yourself to a popsicle or ice cream and don’t feel guilty.
Enjoy your training and keep up the good work. A bunch of games and contests are coming, as well as some creative nature outings. Simple workouts again this week and no vid necessary, but here’s a great podcast episode for you to enjoy. I was recently a guest on The Backcountry Hunting Podcast and I discussed training for hunting in great detail.
